Kristin Wittmayer

Bio

Kristin Wittmayer is an occupational therapist with nearly 20 years of experience and a credential list that reflects a career built on deep, intentional expertise. A graduate of the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, where she earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy with a minor in special education, Kristin has spent her career becoming one of the most specialized pediatric OTs in the region. Her advanced certifications include an Advanced Certificate in Neuroscience from Thomas Jefferson University, the Ayres Sensory Integration Certificate (completed twice, in 2010 and again in 2023), STAR ProCert Level 2, DIRFloortime Proficient Certificate, and Yoga Calm Certification.

Kristin’s clinical focus is on children with sensory processing challenges, kids who are often misunderstood before they find the right support. She specializes in treating children whose sensory differences show up as motor, emotional, learning, behavioral, or attention-related challenges, and her approach is rooted in play-based intervention that’s as effective as it is enjoyable. In her words, if the session isn’t fun, they’re not doing it right. By weaving emotionally meaningful and motivating themes into treatment, she creates the conditions for real brain and nervous system change, and somehow makes it feel like anything but work.

A Brookings, SD native, Kristin returned to South Dakota after college to be closer to family and the lake, and she hasn’t looked back. Weekends find her on the water, soaking up sunsets, fishing, and enjoying fire pits with her family, or cheering on her daughter at the softball field. She’s been at this for nearly two decades, though you’d never know it. The kids she works with always guess wrong when they try to figure out her age, which she takes as a professional compliment.
